Finest City Improv Founder Releases First Book
Lisewski gives readers the courage to plan less and play more
San Diego CA—Amy Lisewski, founder, artistic director and CEO of Finest City Improv, lets the world in on the secret to a happy and uninhibited life with her first book, “Relax, We’re All Just Making This Stuff Up!”, which was released August 6. Lisewski has launched San Diego’s improv scene based on the guiding principle that confidence and happiness come from planning less.
Lisewski exposes lessons of a seasoned improviser and life-changing student anecdotes while introducing readers to the simple yet fundamental principles of improv that can take anyone from living a good life to an amazing life.
“This book was written for the introverts – the people who prefer to keep to themselves and cringe at the thought of getting up on stage,” says Lisewski. “Improvisation has given me the tools to navigate everything life throws at me – from being a foster mother to being a female entrepreneur – and it can help everyone live their best lives.”
Lisewski’s expertise stems from more than 25 years of experience as a trained professional in business and the arts. After graduating from world-renowned improv school Second City Conservatory, she trained with dozens of top improv teachers from all over the country. Faced with the decision to move to Los Angeles to continue her passion, she chose to instead stay in San Diego and build her own improv comedy theater. Lisewski founded Finest City Improv as well as the San Diego Improv Festival. She continues to perform weekly at her North Park theater, which provides a stage for more than 40 different improv comedy teams every month.
Knowing that improv can be life changing off the stage as well as on the stage, she uses her certification as a Vistage Speaker to help executives become more effective leaders through the principles of improv. She works with corporate teams and large businesses to improve public speaking, teamwork and happiness at work.
“Relax, We’re All Just Making This Stuff Up!” has already earned critical acclaim from public speakers, improv experts and best selling authors. “If you desire to create the life you are meant to live but aren’t sure how to start on that journey, then this book should go straight to the top of your reading list,” says J.J. Virgin, author of New York Times bestsellers, “The Virgin Diet” and “Sugar Impact Diet.”
Lisewski presented her book on Tonight in San Diego on August 8. Her first book appearance and signing will take place in her hometown of Rome, New York on August 23 at the Jervis Public Library from 6:30 – 8 p.m. The San Diego release party and signing will take place on August 31 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Brewing Company.
For readers inspired to take the first steps toward a more joyful life, Finest City Improv’s North Park training center offers regular classes for every level of improv experience. Students can expect a supportive environment to foster creativity, make new friends and milk life for all its worth while Lisewski stands in the background – or on stage – telling her students to stop planning and make more stuff up.
