Vulcan Wireless of Carlsbad will partner with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, as part of the national space agency’s effort to return humans to the Moon, among other projects, NASA announced July 30.

NASA selected Vulcan Wireless as one of 13 small, medium and large U.S. companies for 19 partnerships to build industry-developed space technologies, the agency said in its news release.

“NASA’s proven experience and unique facilities are helping commercial companies mature their technologies at a competitive pace,” Jim Reuter, associate administrator of NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate, said in the news release. “We’ve identified technology areas NASA needs for future missions, and these public-private partnerships will accelerate their development so we can implement them faster.”

Vulcan Wireless will work with Goddard to test a CubeSat radio transponder and its compatibility with NASA’s Space Network, the agency stated. A CubeSat is a miniature satellite, also known as a class of nanosatellite, used in space research.
