Shaffer, Kranz, Muir win council seats

Encinitas voters on Nov. 6 opted for fresh faces on the City Council and ended the 12-year tenure of Councilman Jerome Stocks, according to full results from the county registrar of voters.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, newcomers Lisa Shaffer and Tony Kranz and appointed Councilman Mark Muir will take seats on the council. The hotly contested race led to a series of controversial political mailings and campaign tactics, area political activists observed over the past few months. Stocks came in fourth behind Muir. The top three candidates will take seats on the council.

Nine candidates were on the ballot for the three seats.

The results are preliminary, according to the registrar of voters, with about 475,000 absentee and provisional ballots remaining to be counted region-wide as of 10:30 a.m. Nov. 7.

Vote breakdown:
Lisa Shaffer, 23.16 percent
Tony Kranz, 18.46 percent
Mark Muir, 14.33 percent
Jerome Stocks, 12.70 percent
Barb Yost, 10.18 percent
Kevin Forrester, 9.08 percent
Bryan M. Ziegler, 5.80 percent
Thomas Brophy, 3.96 percent
Peter Allen Schuh, 2.34 percent
