The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather statement Aug. 20 for North County beaches, warning of potential beach lightning strikes.
It’s the second time this month that the Weather Service has issues such a warning for local beaches.
The warning extends to beaches in south San Diego County, as well.
A line of showers and hazardous thunderstorms will pass through the region through the morning, the Weather Service stated. The warning is expected to expire by 11 a.m. Rain and thunder were reported in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside and San Marcos from about 3 a.m. to 9 a.m.
