Guthrie, who succeeds longtime director Dody Crawford, comes to the business group with previous experience as chief executive of the Escondido Downtown Business Association from 2009 to 2013, where she also served as editor of Escondido City Magazine. She has served as a marketing director for firms in San Diego and Escondido, according to Encinitas 101 MainStreet.

“I am honored and thrilled to be chosen to help guide the downtown 101 corridor through the upcoming years of growth,” Guthrie said in the announcement. “My passion for Encinitas drove me to seek the director position. It’s an exciting time here, with lots of new opportunities to enhance business, while carefully preserving our unique beach town atmosphere.”

Guthrie is already developing a strategy for Encinitas 101 MainStreet, the group said. Her goals include the development of long-term partnerships to increase the organization’s effectiveness in the community, in addition to increased discussions with businesses, property owners and residents about ways to enhance downtown Encinitas.

“We are excited to have Thora join us and look forward to her leading us into the next decade,” Encinitas 101 MainStreet board President John DeWald said in the announcement. “She brings a great deal of relevant experience as well as a strong passion for Encinitas. We have been lucky to have Dody Crawford’s leadership these last eight years and thank her for her hard work.”
