ENCINITAS — The Julian Roel Quartet performs for the January edition of the First Sunday Music Series from 2 to 3 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. Roel studies the alto saxophone at the New School of Jazz and Contemporary music. For several years, he has studied with local master Charles McPherson and last year graduated from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. Julian’s quartet covers bebop, West Coast jazz, and compositions by such artists as Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, Cedar Walton and Thelonious Monk.
