Caltrans is wrapping up work on barrier placement and other construction preparation along Interstate 5 through Encinitas and Carlsbad.
The installation of the final segments of a concrete barrier along the center median of the freeway will coincide with pavement removal and median excavation, a Feb. 1 progress report states. The work will be underway from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4.
The work is being done along the I-5 median from Manchester Avenue in Encinitas north to Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad, according to the Build NCC update from the San Diego Association of Governments.
Crews will also work overnight during the next eight weeks, 9 p.m.-5 a.m., to remove vegetation and excavated materials from the median. Intermittent nighttime lane closures might be required.
The oleander shrubs currently in the median will be replaced with native coyote brush when the project is completed in 2021.
