Mary Louise Scott: 1920-2019

Mary Scott passed away June 4, 2019, in the presence of her family at her home in Oceanside. She was 98 years old.

She was the eldest of five children born to Emmett and Roma Barry. A native of Burlington, Iowa, her family came to California in the mid 1930s to make a new start in the cleaning business. For a short time during World War II, she worked for North American Aviation in the assembly of the P-51 Mustang fighter plane. She then attended college, earning an associate’s degree in nursing. She was enrolled in nurses training at Queen of Angeles Hospital in Los Angeles.

In 1945, she married Mst./Sgt. Rayford O. Scott, and they were married until his death in 2008. They settled in Oceanside, where they raised their family. She was active throughout her life in the Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Altar and Rosary Society.

Mary was predeceased my her parents Emmett and Roma, her siblings Roma, Rita, Richard and Audrey, and her husband Rayford. She is survived by her sons Mark of Oceanside, Alfred Ray and his wife Ronda of Oceanside, and Bryan and his wife Linda of Carlsbad, and their children Dr. Erin Scott and her husband Dr. William Ridgeway of Leucadia, and Dr. Trevor Scott and his wife Dr. Lily Amber Guerrero of Vista.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations be made to the Semper Fi Fund, Camp Pendleton, California.
