A candidate has bowed out of the San Dieguito Union High School District board race and given her support to a competitor.
Amy Caterina, who was running for Area 4, which includes Del Mar, parts of Carmel Valley, Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch, announced her withdrawal from the race Oct. 13. She endorsed candidate Michael Allman in a news release announcing the end of her campaign.
Caterina has been appointed to serve on the County of San Diego 2020 Independent Redistricting Commission, and she will be unable to commit to the school board as a result, according to the announcement.
The commission is responsible for redrawing the boundaries of the county’s five supervisorial districts.
“I want to thank all of my donors and volunteers for their support,” Caterina said in the announcement. “I endorse Michael Allman for San Dieguito school board Area 4. Michael has demonstrated that he has the support of the parents in this district and I believe that he is the right person for the job.”
Allman ran as a Republican against Democrat Scott Peters in the 2018 race for the House of Representatives 52nd District. Peters won reelection.
San Dieguito Union High School District Area 4 is currently represented by Joyce Dalessandro, who is not seeking the seat again. Area 2, which covers parts of Encinitas and south Carlsbad and is currently represented by board President Beth Hergesheimer, is also up for grabs this November. Hergesheimer is not seeking reelection.
