If you face long traffic lines at Manchester Avenue and Interstate 5 through Cardiff in Encinitas this weekend, the cause is likely ongoing construction on the bridge over San Elijo Lagoon, according to transportation officials.

The closures on Manchester Avenue at the freeway began Friday, Oct. 8, at 9 p.m. underneath the bridge, according to a San Diego Association of Governments notice. The road is expected to fully reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11.

Eastbound and westbound traffic at Manchester will be intermittently closed and detoured, officials stated. The closures are part of the Build NCC program, which is continuing work underneath the San Elijo Lagoon freeway bridge toward the completion of the San Eljio Lagoon bike and pedestrian bridge.
