Vista CA— The Vista Panthers opened the 2016 football season with former football players being honored from the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s 00’s and 10’s as they rededicated a remodeled Dick Haines Stadium. The wife of the late Dick Haines was honored during a ceremony with Vista Principal, Anthony Barela. Dick Haines coached the Panthers from 1970 to 1995. Unfortunately for the Panther fans, the party was spoiled by the visiting Knights of San Marcos High School(1-0), 37-13.
San Marcos scored on their first three possessions and added a safety at the end of the first quarter to take a 23-0 lead and never looked back. QB Bryce Bolin was 24 of 41 throwing for 357 yards and two touchdown passes of 31, 12 yards and rushed for one touchdown. Tyler Rogers had a 2-yard TD. Kyle Phillips had 8 receptions for a total 123 yards.
Vavaga Sialoi led the Panthers(0-1) in rushing as he recorded 10 carries for 79 yards and scored on a 2 yard touchdown run. Panther QB Josh Barnes scored on a 7 yard run.
San Marcos will host Bonita Vista in their home opener, next Friday while Vista takes on San Pasqual, September 2 in Escondido.
