Oceanside North and South teams
San Diego CA— Wow! What an amazing weekend to kick off the SSS 2017-18 Season. Mission Beach was firing on all cylinders providing 6-8 foot sets with plenty of 4-5 foot waves from a south swell. Sunday was quite a bit different from Saturday’s summer conditions. Sunday was a fast forward into a wintery day. South wind shifting to offshore then south again. Conditions were pretty bumpy but a little smaller than the day before but not by much. It didn’t even faze these kids who were so pumped to get the season started.
You could definitely tell these kids worked hard all summer to get ready for the competition season. No holding back as they charged the waves; conditions were not a factor for them. It was a changing total for team points all day long between Pacific Beach, Oceanside and Calavera Hills. It came down to the finals to decide the final totals. The Oceanside North team came out on top with kids in every final.
Tex Mitchell started the season where he left off at State Champs winning the season opener in the Boys Shortboard for the Oceanside South team. Ryan Risko from Oceanside North took the honors in Boys Shortboard with team mate Caitlin Simmers taking first in Girls Shortboard, Zoe Zetic taking first in Girls Longboard and Steven Leste took the win in the Coed Bodyboard Division.
