Oceanside CA – Sharing a common vision to strengthen our schools and our community, the Oceanside Unified School District, along with educational partner, Quantum Learning Network (QLN), will host “Building a Community of Excellence” a community forum and workshop, Tuesday, June 2. The gathering will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the QLN campus, 1938 Avenida Del Oro in Oceanside.
As part of the OUSD Kids First Initiative, Tuesday’s session is designed to foster and build character education throughout the community. Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood, city officials, business and faith-based leaders and a host of community members will attend. Student videos and live performances centered on “positive character traits” will enhance the evening. North County Transit will provide a city bus decorated with the 8 Keys of Excellence.
“Think of this as an effort to collectively promote the development of safe, healthy kids in our community, said OUSD Superintendent Larry Perondi. “Public schools and their immediate communities share a unique opportunity to forge partnerships focused on the common goal of shaping the future. And we all need to work together to truly affect the positive decision-making of our children in all aspects of their lives.”
The OUSD Kids First Initiative is a character education-based program that utilizes QLN’s 8 Keys of Excellence as a basis for promoting standards of excellence. The 8 Keys serve as a common language promoting concepts such as “integrity,” “commitment” and “speaking with good purpose.” All OUSD schools have implemented the 8 Keys curriculum for both students and staff.
