San Diego CA— Recognizing the importance in building a better community, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and the San Diego Padres are teaming up to make the 2016 season about more than baseball. Throughout the regular season, SDG&E and the Padres will be supporting more than 20 local non-profit organizations through the philanthropic collaboration—Going to Bat for San Diego.
As each organization sought a local partner that shared its passion for the San Diego region, SDG&E Chairman, President and CEO, Jeff Martin, and San Diego Padres Executive Chairman, Ron Fowler, initiated a unique partnership resulting in a major season-long, giving initiative.
“San Diego is more than where we do business, it is our home,” said Martin. “Imagine the possibilities that can be unlocked when you have two San Diego institutions working together for the same cause—supporting great organizations that are committed to making our community better each and every day.”
The partnership began with mutual interest between the Padres and SDG&E in efforts to not only give back to the community, but also provide awareness of the missions of our local nonprofits. From first responders and emergency services, to youth outreach and veterans’ programs, Going to Bat for San Diego aims to serve the communities throughout San Diego and southern Orange Counties. By the end of the 2016 season, SDG&E, in partnership with the Padres, will provide more than $500,000 in charitable giving to more than 20 organizations working to better San Diego.
“The San Diego Padres are committed to making a difference in the San Diego community, especially through the organizations that support our military and first responders and their families, and those that encourage and support underserved youth,” said Fowler. “We are proud to partner with SDG&E, another community-focused organization, to highlight the great work these charitable partners do in our neighborhoods every day.”
Going to Bat for San Diego will help to advance the efforts of the following organizations: American Red Cross, Armed Services YMCA, Camp Pendleton, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Classroom of the Future, Deputy Sheriffs Foundation, Make A Wish, NSW-SEAL Family Foundation, Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego, REBOOT, San Diego Police Foundation, San Diego Police Officers Association, San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation, Science of Sports, Semper Fi Fund, USO, USS Midway Museum, Padres Foundation, Veterans Village of San Diego, Agua Hedionda Lagoon, Tree San Diego, Chula Vista Charitable Fund.
