Jewish Family Service Names Krizia Puig as Girls Give Back Coordinator
Native of Venezuela Brings Passion and Global Perspective to Teen Leadership Program
San Diego County CA— Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) has hired Krizia Puig as the new coordinator for Girls Give Back, an award-winning program that engages Jewish teen girls in fun, positive leadership and team-building activities, while they explore the community through hands-on service learning and advocacy projects.
“I am passionate about creating brave spaces for women and girls to work on social justice issues. I love to teach, and plan to incorporate the transformative power of the arts as a tool to further change,” said Puig.
The focus of this year’s program, Puig says, will be to unlock the teens’ creative potential while tackling important topics such as privilege and oppression; the social construction of beauty; body politics; sexual orientation; reproductive justice; violence against women; and feminism and technology, among others. She plans to incorporate visual and performing arts, pop and cyber culture, literature, and media to create empowering, engaging, and transformative learning experiences for the group’s collective and individual growth.
Puig, a native of Venezuela, earned a Master of Performing Arts from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain, before becoming an adjunct professor of comparative arts at Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In addition to her role at JFS, Puig is a second-year graduate student of women’s studies at San Diego State University, where she is also pursuing a certificate in LGBT studies.
Girls Give Back empowers the next generation of female leaders to create meaningful change in the world around them. Teens learn about issues impacting women and girls and develop leadership skills by planning service projects focusing on three action areas: young girls’ empowerment, access to education for women and girls, and women’s rights advocacy.
The Girls Give Back application deadline for the 2016-17 school year is Monday, September 12. For more information and to fill out an application, visit www.jfssd.org/girlsgiveback.
