
Oceanside CA— Last week, the Oceanside Pacific Kiwanis held their Twelfth Annual ‘Beach Fun Day’ event, at the Oceanside Harbor, for children with special needs.
Approximately 80 special needs children participated in this years event. The children range from mild-moderate to moderate-severe disabilities and were accompanied by their classroom teachers and paraprofessional staff members.
The children were greeted by a gang of pirates and mermaids as they boarded a boat, provided by Helgrens Sports Fishing, for a half-hour harbor cruise. After the cruise the kids played games on the beach enjoyed static displays provide by the Oceanside Fire Department and Lifeguards along with Marines from Camp Pendleton. Then it was kite flying, a sack lunch with sandwiches from Chick-Fil-A, and drinks. dancing, the limbo, and entertainment that included more pirates, mascots, a DJ, cheer squads from El Camino and Oceanside High Schools. The participants were also treated to a flyby from a REACH Air Ambulance.
Each child received a kite, book and book bag and a special “Beach Fun Day” t-shirt.
