San Diego CA— Promises2Kids is a 40-year-old nonprofit dedicated to creating a brighter future for the 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County.
“We want to assure all those who support our work that our commitment remains unwavering in our care for these beautiful, vulnerable children and adolescents,” said Tonya Torosian, CEO of Promises2Kids. “We are continuing to support youth in our Guardian Scholars program, as well as the youth who participate in Camp Connect and those cared for by the County’s Polinsky Children’s Center.”
“We are now also needing to address critical and emergent needs that have arisen from COVID19. This includes additional resources to support activities for youth at Polinsky while school is out, creative ways to connect separated siblings through the use of technology and food, supplies and financial support to our college youth who have lost their income.”
Torosian noted that the kindness and generosity of supporters has become critical in helping foster youth.“One of our most urgent concerns is how we can assist those in our college support program, Guardian Scholars. Nearly 200 of our youth are impacted by their college campus protocols of dorm closures and shifts to online courses. 49% of Promises2Kids students have lost their job or have significantly lost hours and now cannot afford basic needs. Since many of these youth do not have family support, we are often the only ones they can turn to in times of need. We want to ensure we have the community support and resources to provide our youth with basic needs.”
“We have faith that our community will rise together to help our most vulnerable, as we always have, even as all of us struggle to thrive in these extraordinary times. Keep us in your hearts and minds. United, we will come through this stronger and more vibrant than ever.”
