NTC Foundation welcomes the Superintendent of the Chula Vista Elementary School District and the President & CEO of Junior Achievement of San Diego County to its Board of Directors
San Diego CA— NTC Foundation is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Francisco Escobedo and Siddhartha Vivek to the Board of Directors. With a mission to enrich the lives of San Diegans, NTC Foundation was established to renovate 26 historic buildings at the former Naval Training Center into a significant flagship destination for arts, culture and creativity known as ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station.
“Dr. Escobedo and Mr. Vivek both bring a diverse background of experience to their seats on the NTC Foundation Board of Directors,” says Lisa Johnson, President and CEO of NTC Foundation. “We are thrilled to welcome these leaders in our efforts to enrich the lives of our community members with arts, culture and creativity.”
With almost 30 years’ experience as an educator, Dr. Escobedo is the current Superintendent of the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD). Located in southern San Diego County, the District’s 46 schools serve over 29,400 students. Under his leadership, CVESD was identified by the Learning Policy Institute as one of seven “California Positive Outlier” districts for its superior academic scores. In addition to his leadership of the CVESD, Dr. Escobedo served as the President of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a member of the Board of Directors for the local YMCA and for Classroom of the Future Foundation. Dr. Escobedo is a long-time Rotarian too. In 2019, he was selected as Superintendent of the Year for ACSA Region 18. Since 2001, Dr. Escobedo has served as adjunct professor of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University (SDSU) and is currently a member of the doctoral faculty. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University; M.A. degree from SDSU; and Ed.D. from the University of California, San Diego and SDSU.
Sidd Vivek currently serves as the President & CEO of Junior Achievement of San Diego County where he oversees a team of fifteen and interactive facilities and programs that empower more than 22,000 students annually to understand and achieve economic success. Vivek’s previous experience includes time in Washington, DC, where his work in electoral politics and issue advocacy across the country contributed to Congress’ approval of $1 billion nationally for after school and out-of-school time programming. Most recently, Vivek spent eleven years at the YMCA of San Diego County, progressively Increasing revenue and building strategic partnerships that directly impacted more than 10,000 people annually in underserved communities.
NTC Foundation operates the 100-acre creative district that is ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. Now a burgeoning hub for life and culture, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is a unique location filled with nearly 145 galleries, museums, artists, music groups, dance companies, makers, creators, and distinctive dining experiences. Additional programs offered by NTC Foundation include Liberty School, Installations at the Station, Collaborative Arts Grants, and the recently created Inside Out program.
