Oceanside CA-MiraCosta College’s Police Department is offering a three-day course in Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) for female students, faculty, staff and community members. Class will be held November 6, 7, 8 at MiraCosta College’s Community Learning Center, located at 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside. The R.A.D. course is offered free of charge.
R.A.D. is a program that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. The R.A.D. program was created to teach women how to defend themselves against rape aggression. The self-defense techniques taught in this course are practical, and students will have the opportunity to use the techniques they have learned in a full-contact simulated assault scenario held on the last day of class.
Participants must attend all three sessions at the following times: November 6, 4–8 p.m.; November 7, 4–8 p.m.; and November 8, noon– 4 p.m. The class is open to females age 14 and up. Space is limited and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For registration, or additional information, contact the MiraCosta College Police Office at nyax@miracosta.edu or call (760) 795-6640.
