Machining with Wine in Mind
This introductory 30-hour machining class is an opportunity for women in the area to learn how to machine in a fun and stress-free environment. This class will focus on machining using a manual mill and lathe, but students will get an overview of a variety of fabrication tools, materials, and techniques. By the end of the class, students will have a good grasp of the manual lathe process and will have made a wine holder. Fee: $199. Location: Technology Career Institute. Time: Mondays & Wednesdays, 9/12–10/19, 1–3:30 p.m.
Electronic Assembly
The purpose of this course is to provide the necessary training for students to become electronic assemblers at an advanced manufacturing company. Students will learn:
Soldering through-hole and surface mount single lead/multi-lead components
Soldering multi-pin IC chips
Measuring and cutting wire
Trimming insulation, crimping, connectorizing, molding and insulating connector ends
Wrapping, bundling, shielding, insulating and security cable harnesses
Mounting modules, components, connectors, cables, and harnesses into chassis
Students will work toward IPC-A-610 certification. In addition, students will learn the role of production in the manufacturing system and how certain skill sets such as reading and
analyzing acceptance criteria, testing, documentation, and soldering are integral to the job. Fee: $300. Location: Landes Recreation Center. Time: Sundays, 9/11–12/18, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
