Oceanside CA- A driver weaving in and out of traffic on southbound I-5, lost control of his 1997 Tan Honda Accord, South of the San Onofre Power Plant between San Clemente and Oceanside. His vehicle launched off the freeway, a little after 9:00 pm, Sunday, on to the railroad tracks below where seconds later, it was stuck by a Southbound Amtrak train traveling approximately 65mph. The Honda was cut in half, the un-restrained driver was ejected and arriving CHP Officers and Fire personnel confirmed his death at the scene due to obvious fatal trauma. No one on the train was injured.
The train was en-route to San Diego from San Luis Obispo with 285 passengers on board. The name of the 24-year-old driver, of the Honda, is being withheld and the San Diego County Coroner lists his residence as Squaw Valley.
