
Del Mar CA– The 2nd Annual Big Bite Bacon Fest returns to the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons/Sav-On, on July 5 in the Del Mar Arena. The Big Bite Bacon Dish Competition was held on June 17, to determine who will move on to compete at the event which takes place during the San Diego County Fair.
Professional, amateur and kid chefs competed in a culinary cook-off showcasing the key ingredient, “bacon” and included savory, sweet, salty concoctions and combinations. The three pro finalists are all chefs from San Diego and include: Leo Garcia of Mexico City Café, (Mexicano Alambre Chilango); Derek Jaeger of The Cravory, (Banana Bacon Sundae); and Matt Ham of La Jolla Brewery, (Bacon Jalapeño Mac and Cheese). The amateur finalists included San Diego locals: Tore Trupiano, (Porchetta Apricot Pork Belly); Tammy Zeigler, (Garlic Chicken Bacon Pizza); and Juli Hull (French Toast Bacon Cupcake). Each of the three professional chefs will be paired with one of the amateur chefs to compete at the Big Bite Bacon Fest at the San Diego County Fair on July 5.
Each professional and amateur first place winners will claim their stake in a prize package that includes $3,000 cash and automatic entrance into the 2014 World Food Championships taking place in November, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
