Write On, Oceanside!

Oceanside CA– The 4th Annual Write On, Oceanside! will offer two writers’ workshops this year. The first, returning by popular demand, “Publish or Perish” will run from 10:00-11:00 a.m., in the Community Rooms. This workshop will answer such questions as : Does everyone really have a book in them? What does it take to write a book? What could be some unexpected challenges? Why self publish? What about an editor? E-book or print… pros and cons. The panel will be led by local author, journalist, editor, and communications expert, Dr. Tom Morrow, PhD.
The second scheduled workshop will be “Get Started on Your Screenplay” 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Presented by Antonio F. Vianna, Carlsbad-based novelist of 21 published books and a screenwriter of 8 screenplays, 6 of which are adapted from 6 of his novels. The workshop addresses: (1) the importance of identifying a compelling story and character, (2) the 3-Act screenplay structure, (3) using the 8 sequence beat format, (4) creating a log line, (5) creating a synopsis, and (6) using Final Draft software. The presenter will summarize for attendees the most helpful pointers he has gathered over the years and provide handouts to everyone. Following his presentation, he will conduct a Q&A session.
Both workshops, free to the public, will be presented in the Community Rooms in conjunction with the Write On, Oceanside! book fair, presented by Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation with the Oceanside Public Library and Friends of the Library. It will be held Saturday, July 19, 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the Civic Center Plaza 330 No. Coast Highway, in Oceanside.
Write On, Oceanside! celebrates Oceanside authors. At this free event, the public will have the opportunity to talk with their favorite authors, meet new, local authors, take pictures and get autographs, purchase books directly from the authors. A couple of writing and publishing workshops are in the program, as well as a special children’s reading & craft section. The fair showcases published, self-published, and independent publisher works in the following categories: non-fiction, fiction, children’s books, teenage, how-to, comics/graphic novels, poetry, plays, science fiction-horror, biography-autobiography, gardening, cookbooks, animals, photography-art, mystery and spiritual.
