Oceanside CA– On Sunday August 3rd, 2014 at approximately 9:12 p.m., Oceanside Police officers responded to an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Vista Rey in Oceanside regarding a man with a gun.
Information provided to the dispatcher was that a man inside an apartment was pointing a gun at his girlfriend and her adult son. Both victims were able to leave the apartment safely prior to OPD arriving. Efforts were made to get the suspect, identified as Greg Roenfeldt 11-27-64 49 years old, to exit the apartment. He refused. Roenfeldt stated he would be dead in two minutes.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team responded and made contact with Roenfeldt for the next several hours. Roenfeldt surrendered at 1:35 a.m. He was arrested for two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon (firearm), one count of Domestic Violence Spousal Abuse, and one count of Criminal Threats. A semi-automatic handgun and several rifles were confiscated and an Emergency Protective Order was obtained for the victim.
