Original story follows:
Oceanside CA– Thursday morning, August 28, 2014 at 7:59 a.m. Oceanside Police dispatchers received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision in the 300 block of Douglas Drive near La Hacienda Restaurant. Callers reported a motorcyclist down and a large Budget Rental truck leaving the scene.
Officers arrived and found the motorcyclist down and unresponsive. They immediately began CPR.
The investigation revealed that Brandon Bizarro, a 23 year old Marine was driving a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle. Ezequiel Cazaresgarcia, 30 years old, of Oceanside was driving a 2012 Nissan truck rented from Budget Rentals at 3320 Mission Avenue in Oceanside.
Bizarro had been stopped for a red light at Mission Avenue and Douglas Drive prior to the collision. Witnesses said that when the light turned green, Bizarro accelerated at a normal rate of speed on northbound Douglas. As he neared the La Hacienda Restaurant at 300 Douglas, Cazaresgarcia pulled out of the restaurant parking lot. Bizarro was unable to stop and collided with the Budget Rental truck.
Cazaresgarcia then drove away and returned the truck to Budget Rentals at 3320 Mission. He made statements to the clerk which caused her to call the Oceanside Police Department and tell the dispatcher the truck had been returned, but the driver had been involved in a traffic collision. Cazresgarcia eventually returned to the scene. He made a number of incriminating statements to investigators. He was eventually arrested for hit and run with injury.
Bizarro was transported to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla. He has not regained consciousness.
Cazaresgarcia was transported to the Vista Detention Facility. Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be a factor at this time.
The investigation is continuing. Although there were witnesses to the collision, the Oceanside Police Department is requesting that anyone with information regarding the collision call Officer Yanci Blackwell at (760) 435-4801 or Officer Bryan Hendrix at (760) 435-4882.
