Oceanside CA– On September 23, 2014 members of the Neighborhood Policing Team and the Investigations Division of the Oceanside Police Department served search warrants in the 5100 block of Barry Street and the 3800 block of Mesa Drive. The warrants were served simultaneously and were a result of the investigation into the vandalism of three American flags which occurred July 18, 2014 in the 3800 block of Rosemary Way in Oceanside.
The area where the vandalism occurred is a senior community located near El Camino High School. The investigation revealed that on July 18, 2014 at 11:43 p.m. three people vandalized three American flags. The vandals also damaged other private and public property at separate addresses. The locations were in the 3800 block of Rosemary Way and the 3800 block of Mesa Drive.
The actions of the three suspects were caught on a video surveillance camera. The video shows two Hispanic males and one Hispanic female acting together in spray painting the flag at one of the locations. The words spray painted on that flag were “FUCK USA”. All three flags were spray painted light blue. One of the other flags had tagger monikers on it. The third flag had light blue streaks across it.
Below is a portion of the surveillance video-
Two suspects were taken into custody at the Mesa Drive address. Daniel Moran (DOB 01/13/96) and Breanna Serrato (DOB 05/21/96) were arrested for conspiracy to commit vandalism. Both suspects made statements of admission and implicated a third person, Ruben Jimenez (DOB 06/28/96). Jimenez is in custody on an unrelated matter.
Evidence consistent with the vandalism was located at both addresses.
“This was an example of excellent police work by all of the members of the department. The investigation included many hours of research, persistence and teamwork.” said Lt. Leonard Cosby in a written release earlier this afternoon.
Moran and Serrato were booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
