Oceanside CA– Early Wednesday evening, October 15, 2014 at approximately 6:20PM, two uniformed Gang Suppression Officers were in the 500 block of Calle Montecito when they observed an individual they recognized as Oceanside documented gang member, 33 year-old John Rodriguez.
Officers recognized Rodriguez from prior contacts and were also aware he had an active felony arrest warrant for drugs. When officers attempted to contact Rodriguez and place him under arrest, an immediate struggle ensued.
During the struggle it was reported that Rodriguez attempted to grab one of the officer’s duty weapon. The officers had to use force to take Rodriguez into custody.
During the struggle Rodriguez sustained an injury to his head and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. After the incident investigations personnel responded to obtain witness statements and recover evidence.
Both officers sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. The suspect is currently in stable condition and under arrest for his outstanding felony warrant, P.C. 245- Assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
