Pedestrian Struck by Train in Carlsbad-UPDATED

UPDATED at 5:30pm:
The female pedestrian in this incident was killed in the collision. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to take custody of and identify the victim.
Carlsbad CA— It happened just before 1:30 p.m. along the tracks near the 5800 block of Avenida Encinas. A southbound AMTRAK train was going between 70 and 80 miles per hour when the engineer spotted a woman who was trespassing along the tracks.
He immediately activated the train’s emergency braking system, but was unable to avoid the collision. The woman who was struck died at the scene.
The investigation continues and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
