Carlsbad CA— On Friday June 25, 2016, at approximately 9:40 PM, a 48 year-old man, from Tijuana, Mexico, stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder of north-bound Interstate 5, just south of Palomar Airport Road, to assist a friend whose vehicle became disabled.
While the man was standing near the left-front of his vehicle, a pick-up truck drove upon the right shoulder and struck him.
The driver of the pickup truck did not stop and exited the freeway on the adjacent Palomar Airport Road off-ramp.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries which were described by a Carlsbad paramedic as “life threatening”. The victim was transported to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla for treatment.
Despite an exhaustive search by officers from both the CHP and Carlsbad Police Department, neither the errant pick-up truck nor it’s driver were located.
The pick-up truck is a newer model, white Toyota Tacoma. It sustained right front and possibly right-side damage. The vehicle may have also suffered a flat on the right-front or right-rear tire.
Anyone with information or tips about the possible identity of the pick-up truck and/or its driver is asked to call the CHP, anytime, 24-hours a day at 858·637·3800.
