Carlsbad CA—The Carlsbad City Council will hold a special meeting on Friday, May 1, 2020 to discuss easing restrictions on the stretch of beach controlled by the city. Several cities in San Diego County, including Oceanside, have opened the beaches they control with many restrictions on usage.
The City of Carlsbad controls just about one mile of coastline, from Oak Avenue north to the Oceanside border. California State Parks controls the rest of the beaches in Carlsbad. The goal for the city is to coordinate timing so State Parks beaches and the Carlsbad portion can open at the same time.
Reports of the beaches opening May 4th are premature.
