About 65 families received free boxes of food in Solana Beach on Wednesday, April 15, thanks to an effort by La Colonia de Eden Gardens Inc.

Volunteers from the nonprofit and The Sand Dollar Foundation filled boxes with produce, beans, rice, eggs and tortillas for the giveaway at St. Leo Mission Church in Solana Beach, according to a La Colonia de Eden Gardens news release. The boxes also included family messages.

The effort was put together to help families in need during the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.

“Our families work in industries that have been shut down by COVID-19,” La Colonia de Eden Gardens President Manny Aguilar said in the group’s announcement. “Their needs are urgent and can’t wait for workplaces to reopen or assistance to come from the government.”

More information about the community group can be found online at www.lceg.org.
