Encinitas food education group gets $375,000 Sprouts foundation grant

Encinitas-based Sage Garden Project is among several nonprofits in the Southwest that have received donations from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, Sprouts announced Oct. 8. In addition, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is the recipient of a Neighborhood Grant from the foundation.

Leucadia merchants assess next steps after fire destroys building

The cause of a fire that tore through four local businesses in Leucadia is still unknown, authorities said. By Oct. 8, the merchants had collectively raised more than $23,000 toward rebuilding.

Jars of jam, bottles of liqueurs, cookies, cakes and more lined the walls of the Del Mar Fairgrounds grandstand complex during the annual San Diego County Fair as it came to a close last week. The Home and Hobby contest drew in hundreds of competitors to more than 100 categories this year.

Culinary show ‘Lick the Plate’ to air on 100.7 KFMB starting June 3

Popular local culinary radio show, podcast and column “Lick the Plate” has gained a new outlet in San Diego as of June 3 — FM radio station 100.7 KFMB. Host and author David Boylan launched the column in 2011, which has been a staple in the Encinitas-based newspaper Coast News since then.

The Encinitas Spring Street Fair returned to Coast Highway 101 for the 36th year on April 27 and 28, running the length of the thoroughfare from D to J Streets. There was international food, live music, rides for children and a beer garden.

The Fermenters Club held its fifth annual San Diego Fermentation Festival at the Leichtag Commons farm in Encinitas on Feb. 17. Festivalgoers were able to learn how to make their own apple ginger sauerkraut in take-home demo jars at a hands-on table and nibble on samples of products from local artisan producers of fermented products.
