A longtime Encinitas resident and business advocate has been appointed chairman of the board of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, the organization announced Thursday, Jan. 8.
Michael W. Glenn, whose appointment took effect immediately, has been involved with the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce for several years, serving on its board of directors as well as co-chair of the Business and Economic Development Committee and chair of the Tourism Committee. In those roles, he has participated in policy discussions and public engagement efforts related to local business and economic issues.
“Michael’s collaborative leadership style, strategic vision, and deep commitment to Encinitas make him an exceptional choice to serve as chairman,” chamber CEO Carol Knight said in the news release. “He understands the needs of our business community and has a proven track record of bringing stakeholders together to create meaningful progress. I look forward to working with him and our entire Board of Directors to continue to support Encinitas businesses while advancing a thriving local economy and quality of life for our community.”
Outside of his chamber work, Glenn leads the Visit Encinitas Tourism Advisory Board, which brings together representatives from the hospitality, arts and retail sectors. He has also organized community forums aimed at encouraging dialogue among residents, business owners and city officials.
Glenn previously founded and served as executive director of North County Board Meeting, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting local charities and professional networking. The organization partnered with more than 100 businesses during his tenure to raise funds for housing stability, hunger relief and other community needs, according to the chamber’s news release.
Glenn said he is looking forward to the role.
“Encinitas has an incredible spirit of collaboration, innovation, and community pride,” he said in the news release. “I’m honored to serve as Chairman of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and look forward to working alongside our Board, staff, members, Encinitas businesses, the City and 101 Main Street Associations to support local businesses, strengthen partnerships, and continue building an inclusive and thriving local economy.”
Glenn is a graduate of San Diego State University and has worked in marketing and operations roles for national and international organizations. He has lived in Encinitas for about 30 years.
