American Legion Post 416 in Encinitas will mark the Fourth of July and the nation’s 250th anniversary with its fifth annual chili cook-off.
The event will include free chili cook-off entry, with a trophy and bragging rights offered to the winner. Chili tasting and judging are scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. for $5. Other activities include a cornhole tournament at 2 p.m., with a $5 entry fee and a winner-takes-all prize, and a cakewalk at 3 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a favorite cake and pay a $5 fee. Music is planned from 3 to 6 p.m.
Those interested in participating may sign up at the post bar or text Kimberly at 858-210-9557. Donations raised through the event will support the post’s veteran outreach programs. More information can be found at sdpost416.org.
