People in Carlsbad may see emergency crews and flashing lights around McClellan-Palomar Airport on early Thursday, Oct. 23, but there’s no need to worry — it’s just a drill.
The airport will host a disaster exercise from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with setup starting at 6:30 a.m., in the West Tie-down Area at 2198 Palomar Airport Road.
The large-scale drill, held every three years, brings together county staff, first responders and volunteers to practice working together during a simulated emergency, according to a county announcement. The goal is to make sure everyone is ready in case of a real disaster at the airport. It is not an open public event.
McClellan-Palomar is owned and operated by the San Diego County, which oversees ground operations while the FAA manages air traffic. For more details, visit sandiegocounty.gov.
