A man and woman were arrested on Wednesday, July 5, in Encinitas after a reported carjacking and shooting in Cardiff, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspects, who authorities identified as Calvin Brown, 26, and Rolaena Blunt, 18, were arrested at about 8 p.m. at a gym in the 200 block of South El Camino Real after a search that included the use of a Sheriff’s Department ASTREA helicopter, authorities stated in a report.

The arrests were made after a reported carjacking of a white Ford Fusion about an hour earlier in the 800 block of Nolbey Street in Cardiff, according to the report. The victim told authorities that a man and woman had allegedly taken the car, and when he and a witness attempted to follow the suspects in another car, the male suspect got out of the stolen vehicle in the 900 block of Sandcastle Drive and fired several shots in their direction, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Several vehicles were hit by the gunfire, but there were no injuries, according to the report. The suspects fled the scene, and the search ensued by deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station in Encinitas and the ASTREA unit.

At the time of the arrest, deputies found a handgun and ammunition at the scene, the report stated.

Later, deputies found a burgundy Nissan Versa on Nolbey Street that authorities said had been abandoned by the suspects after hitting two cars before the carjacking of the Ford Fusion.

Authorities said the Versa had allegedly been carjacked by the suspects earlier in the day in San Diego. It was also reported that Brown was a suspect in a shooting at about 5:30 p.m. in Imperial Beach.

Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation found a 36-year-old woman who had been shot at a home in the 1100 block of Louden Street, according to the Sheriff’s Department report. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and oo one else was hurt, authorities said.

The shooting victim identified the suspect as Brown, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that Brown and Blunt were booked on charges including attempted murder, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon.
