Students from San Dieguito Union High School District campuses were recognized as Rising Stars for their outlooks on education and contributions to the community Wednesday, March 6, by the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.

The students were Ruben Duarte from San Dieguito High School Academy in Encinitas, Klew Delos Santos from La Costa Canyon High School in south Carlsbad, and Rami Kabakibi from Torrey Pines High School and Ruby Gao from Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley.

City officials and family members joined the students for a recognition breakfast.

The local business organization started the Rising Star program in 2022 as a way to promote educational excellence. The chamber has partnered with MiraCosta College’s San Elijo campus in Cardiff for the monthly awards, which are handed out during the academic year.

Rising Star student honorees have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship, which is set to be awarded in May at the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce’s annual Salute to Education event, according to a news release.

Next month’s Rising Star honorees will be recognized April 10. More information about the program can be found at encinitaschamber.com/events/rising-star.
