Nordstrom Rack, the discount division of department store chain Nordstrom, plans to open a store in Encinitas next spring, the company announced July 29.
The store will be housed in a 24,000-square-foot space currently occupied by Burlington in the El Camino Promenade shopping center. The location within the center was confirmed this week by El Camino Promenade leasing representative Matt Magnaghi, director of real estate at KRC Property Management, part of Kimco Realty.
Burlington remains open for the time being, but in-store announcements are informing shoppers of the closure and directing them to its Oceanside location. The Encinitas location opened in November 2022, replacing Staples. Burlington’s Oceanside store opened in October 2019.
Seattle-based fashion retailer Nordstrom Inc. currently operates 26 Nordstrom stores and 68 Nordstrom Rack stores in California, according to a company news release announcing the spring 2026 opening.
“We look forward to being a part of the Encinitas community and serving our customers with an amazing offering of great brands at great prices,” Nordstrom Rack President President of Nordstrom Rack said in the news release. “We’re excited to grow our footprint in the San Diego market and introduce new customers to the Nordstrom experience.”
A Kimco Realty official said Nordstrom Rack complements El Camino Promenade’s shops, which include TJ Maxx, Five Below, Dollar Store and BevMo.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Nordstrom Rack to El Camino Promenade and the vibrant Encinitas community,” Kimco Realty Property Manager Genevieve Anderson said in Nordstrom’s news release. “As one of the most recognized names in fashion retail, Nordstrom Rack is a perfect complement to our diverse tenant mix and reflects our continued commitment to bringing quality, convenience, and style to North County shoppers.”
El Camino Promenade was originally opened as Weigand Plaza II in 1982. The soon-to-be Nordstrom Rack, Five Below and Dollar Tree spaces were once an AMC 8 cinema.
