Landscape architect and Encinitas resident Patricia Trauth, a principal and equity partner at RICK who leads the landscape architecture division across multiple offices, has been inducted into the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows.
The honor is among the highest distinctions in the profession, awarded to professionals who have made exceptional contributions to their field through leadership, knowledge, service and design excellence.
Trauth, inducted in the Leadership and Management category, has held numerous leadership roles within ASLA, including two terms as trustee for the San Diego chapter, chapter president, chapter vice president (two terms) and newsletter editor.
At the state level, Trauth was appointed to the California Landscape Architects Technical Committee in 2015, the body that regulates the licensing of landscape architects. She served as chair from 2017 to 2018 and is now vice chair. While on the LATC, she helped expand access to licensure by supporting an experience-only pathway and the inclusion of associate degrees.
Trauth has built a three-decade-long career around championing the landscape architecture profession, inspiring and supporting new career pathways, pioneering management roles for herself and other women, and excelling at her craft by creating innovative, sustainable designs. Her impact at the local, state, and national levels through ASLA and other leadership roles is widely recognized by her peers.
As the second woman principal of RICK (formerly Rick Engineering Company) and through her partnership role in multidisciplinary firms, she has elevated landscape architecture to be a critical component in the planning stages of transportation, complete streets, and economic development.
Trauth has planned and designed numerous public and private projects in San Diego County, the Los Angeles basin and the greater Denver area. Her most noteworthy project transformed the San Diego International Airport into a sustainable environment using state-of-the-art materials, processes and equipment while accounting for climate-related challenges such as sea level rise, drought, soil depletion and air quality.
RICK is a San Diego-based multidisciplinary planning, design and engineering firm that has served thousands of public- and private-sector clients across the Western United States since its founding in 1955.
