Oceanside CA- The North County Cobras beat the Los Angeles Falcons, Saturday night,17-6 at Simcox Field to remain undefeated.
The Falcons looked to spoil the Cobras home opener when they took an early 6-0 lead on a 30 yard pass play from quarterback, Eric Alaniz to Ju Goday That touchdown was set up by a fake punt the play before. The extra point was blocked leaving the score 6-0. The game was marred by penalties, miscues and missed opportunities until the Cobras got on the board with a 20 yard field goal with 6 minutes remaining in the first half. The Falcons drove the length of the field on their next possession but an interception in the end zone by strong-safety, Chancey Dariso ended the drive.
The officials flag fest continued in the second half with both teams getting untimely, drive killing penalties. The Cobras had several missed opportunities with dropped interceptions and were unable to capitalize on Falcon turnovers in a scoreless third quarter.
A 46 yard run on an end around by Cobra wide-receiver, Dre Alexander, kept alive a fourth quarter scoring drive that was capped by Ivory Heard’s a 14 yard touchdown run. Three minutes left in the 4th quarter, Cobra line-backer James Ewing made an interception that sparked the Cobras second touchdown drive of the night, a three yard touchdown run by Ramell Watts with 17 seconds left in the game.
The Cobras play on the road next week against the Hollywood Stars, 6:00 pm at Whittier College. Their next home game is Sept. 14 with an early start time of 5:00pm at Oceanside High School
