Carlsbad CA– Thursday night, June 26, 2014, at approximately 10:38 pm, deputies responded to a train versus pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at mile post marker 232, which is near the 5900 block of Avenida Encinas, in the City of Carlsbad.
A 20 year-old female was struck by a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train. According to witnesses, as the train was approaching the location, the victim walked onto the railroad tracks and was struck.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department Coaster and Railroad Enforcement Unit were called to the scene and will be handling the investigation.
