Oceanside CA—Late Thursday night September 17, 2015, at 10:20 pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to a call of a subject that appeared to be sleeping on the westbound side of SR-76 in the bike lane. Upon checking the subject, described as a white male adult, it was determined that he was a victim of a hit and run collision. Emergency personnel arrived and OFD began treating the pedestrian, who was subsequently flown to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition.
The reporting party, an off-duty CHP Officer, advised that as he approached the location where the pedestrian was found he did not see any vehicles in the area. It is unknown how long the pedestrian may have been laying there. Investigation at the scene revealed that a white Ford may have been involved in the hit and run collision.
The investigation is ongoing and the Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation. OPD is asking that anyone who may have been in the area around 10pm and may have information regarding this collision or events leading up to the collision to call Accident Investigator Yanci Blackwell at (760) 435-4801.
