Notes+and+Quotes+by+Tom+Morrow

There’s nothing new about “going green.”
Younger folks today think they’ve discovered recycling, but growing up during World War II, taught me what recycling really is all about.
Remember Mom saving her cooking grease? How about collecting metal of all types? Newspapers, old rags, tin foil from candy and cigarette packs? Lots more I can’t remember. Just about anything that could be used for the war effort was collected.
>How many of you could get by on just three gallons of gasoline a week, or one new tire a year?
Everything was rationed from meat to butter. People raised their own vegetables in a backyard “Victory gardens.”
No new cars of any kind were made from 1942 to 1946 because the big auto companies were building airplanes, tanks, truck and Jeeps.
Ask anyone who lived through World War II – they’ll tell you about “living green.”
BOFF ‘EM —— Two Irishmen sitting in a pub drinking Irish whiskey. One says to the other, “Might ya be coming from Ireland?”
“Aye, that I am,” was the other’s reply.
“What part might ya be from?”
“Dublin,” was the answer.
“Saints be saved, so am I. What part of town?”
“McClary Street.”
“Ya don’t say. I’m from McClary Street.””Go on. You’re not!”
“What school did you go to?”
“St. Mary’s, of course.”
“So did I! What year did ya graduate?”
“1964.”
“I’ll be …. I was in the very same class.”
Just then another patron walks into the pub and sits down at the other end of the bar. He notices the two Irishmen talking loudly and waving their arms.
“So, what’s up with those two,” the patron asks the bartender.
“Oh, it’s just the Murphy twins getting drunk again, as usual.”
SAGE SAYINGS – Life is plagued by the necessity of enduring.
GROANER — Did you hear about the photographer who took a flash picture of a friendly ghost? After the photographer developed the negative he discovered it was underexposed and completely blank. It was a case of the spirit being willing, but the flash was weak.
