Oceanside CA— Early this morning, December 2, 2014 at 3:55 a.m. Oceanside Police Department officers responded to an alarm at the Bank of America ATM machine at 3807 Plaza Drive. ATM security also notified the Oceanside Police Department that there were two suspects on scene wearing masks and wielding a crow bar.
When officers arrived, the suspects were gone. They discovered the ATM cameras and cameras at nearby businesses had been spray painted. Entry had been made into the ATM room and a torch was used to open the ATM. The loss was later determined to be $48,000.00 in the Oceanside ATM heist.
Later in the morning an Ontario Police officer contacted Johnny Campbell in Ontario. He discovered Campbell to be in possession of a large amount of cash and materials from the ATM in Oceanside. Campbell was taken into custody and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. There is no further information on Campbell at this time.
The FBI will assume the investigation. It is believed that this incident may be related to other ATM heists in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
“This is a great example of inter-agency cooperation.” said Oceanside Police Lieutenant, Leonard Cosby in a statement released this morning.
Officers from the Ontario, Upland and Oceanside Police Departments were involved along with agents of the FBI.
