Carlsbad CA— On Sunday, March 8 at 9:30 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department regarding recovered property possibly associated with a burglary at the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church located in the 2700 block of Carlsbad Boulevard in Carlsbad.
A burglary of the church was reported on February 18. Silver was reported stolen during the burglary and the tabernacle was reported to be damaged.
A San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy working in Vista reported that he stopped the suspect on a routine California Vehicle Code violation at Lupine Hills and Shadowridge Drive and ultimately arrested him for driving under the influence. During the traffic stop the deputy reported noticing unusual property in the vehicle and on closer inspection noticed the property was inscribed with St. Michael’s Church.
The deputy contacted Carlsbad Police Department and a detective responded to Vista to evaluate the property.
During the investigation, detectives determined that the property was the stolen silver from St. Michaels Church and subsequently 24-year-old Jeremy Rayburn of Oceanside was arrested for the burglary and vandalism. Further, Rayburn confessed to the crime.
Rayburn was taken to the Vista Detention Facility and has since been released on bail.
All of the silver stolen from St. Michael’s Church was recovered.
“We would like to commend the San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy for his great observation that ultimately resulted in the closure of this case,” stated Investigations Sergeant Greg White.
