Oceanside CA— Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Lewis Carrol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Oceanside Public Library is pleased to present a special evening with bestselling author Melanie Benjamin.
Benjamin’s novel Alice I Have Been explores the real story of Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Carroll’s beloved classic. In this imaginative work, the Benjamin animates this fascinating and complex character from her girlhood as the daughter of the dean of Christ Church College, Oxford University, and friend of Lewis Carroll, to her adulthood and ripe old age. A love story and a literary mystery, Alice I Have Been brilliantly blends fact and fiction to capture the passionate spirit of a woman who was truly worthy of her fictional alter ego, in a world as captivating as the Wonderland only she could inspire. Benjamin’s passion for history and biography blend seamlessly in this work, and she will share the story of the extensive research and process for writing this compelling piece of historical fiction.
This free program will take place on Saturday, May 30, at 6:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library at 330 N. Coast Highway in Oceanside. At 5:00 p.m., the public is invited to a pre-event reception in the Library courtyard hosted by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.
