Encinitas CA— At approximately 12:25 pm, San Diego County Sheriff’s Rail Enforcement Deputies responded to investigate a collision between a train and a pedestrian on the railroad tracks at mile post marker 235.8, near the 1500 block of North Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, where an unidentified man was struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train.
Witnesses saw the man walking toward the railroad tracks as the train was approaching. The train operator activated the horn and emergency braking system, but was unable to stop the train before it struck the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Railroad Enforcement Unit is continuing. Anyone with information about this case can call the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858)565-5200.
