Carlsbad CA— Saturday afternoon, September 12, at 3:58 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a suspicious package, located at Westfield Carlsbad 2525 El Camino Real.
Carlsbad Police determined that the device was significant enough to have the San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb personnel respond for an evaluation. Sheriff’s Bomb personnel arrived at approximately 5:02 p.m. Bomb personnel evaluated the device, which had been described as being approximately 4 inches x 1 inch, black in color, with wires sticking out of it.
The device had been placed between a sink basin and a mirror in the men’s restroom inside the mall. The bomb team evaluated the device via their x-ray machine and made the decision to destroy it via water cannon.
Bomb personnel declared the scene clear at approximately 6:05 p.m.
