Oceanside CA— Early this morning, Sunday, January 1, 2017, at 5:16 AM, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on SR-76, west of Foussat Rd.
Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old female victim (pedestrian) down on the roadway who sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle that hit her was not injured as a result of the collision.
Although the investigation is ongoing, preliminary investigation reveals the female victim was a passenger in an uninvolved vehicle that had stopped on the side of SR-76.
The victim exited the vehicle and crossed SR-76 for unknown reasons. She was eventually struck by a westbound vehicle after climbing over the center median. The victim, whose identity has not been released, succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim was not under the influence.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation.
