Oceanside CA— This afternoon, January 10, 2017, at approximately 2:25 pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to the Rodeway Inn, 1103 N. Coast Highway for a reported shooting.
OPD Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the reporting party who alleged a subject, later identified as Jason Rodriguez (21-years-old), had shot at him while both parties were standing in the parking lot of the motel.
The shooting reportedly followed an argument/altercation occurring minutes before as both parties were driving in separate vehicles in State Route 76 near Interstate 5.
The reporting party and Rodriguez did not know each other before the incident. The reporting party was not struck or injured.
After the shooting, Rodriguez entered his rented room at the Rodeway Inn.
Numerous additional police resources responded to contain the suspect and to evacuate those in nearby rooms and buildings.
At approximately 3:50pm, after communication was established with Rodriguez, he exited the motel room and surrendered to officers without incident.
Rodriguez, will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility for PC 245 (a)(2) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Firearm)
